7eventy 5ive review

Horror movies come and go. Some stick and get re runs on national television. Others disappear or are never heard of. Question is: in which category does 7eventy 5ive fall?

Story

It all begins with a little game called 75. The rules are that you must call a random person for 75 second and convince them of what you’re saying. This can be a lover calling or a murderer watching your every movie. A few little boys playing this game however accidentally call a psychopath that later comes in their house with an axe and kills the boy’s parents sitting in the other room. Ten years later they are having a party at a big land house and again play the game. When they call the wrong person, a murderer, their lives are in great danger.
Picture quality and sound

The picture quality is on par with many other Blu Rays from 07’. They don’t stand out but aren’t terrible either. Some grain can be spotted here and there, but the contrast is pretty good. The sounds unfortunately are below average. It’s not as clear as the higher budget films and the effects aren’t that great either. But most people don’t even use stand alone speakers let alone Dolby surround so this won’t be an issue for most. Overall the presentation isn’t a deal breaker but is what you’d expect from a middle budget Blu ray movie from 07’. Remember at that time most people didn’t even know what Blu rays were.

Bad story and effects

The story itself is pretty bad. At the beginning of the film the directors try to create tension by using those typical horror camera shots and sound effects. The ones that gives you a feeling someone is watching. These tension effects are surprisingly gone once the killer is on the loose. Creating a fast and simple hit - death - done circumstance. And later on a few shock moments are present with scary locations to go with it. The killer is shown at the openings scene, when he (or she!) kills the parents in the other room and later at the land house. But there’s a gap of 30-40 minutes that no killing happens and that might disappoint hard core fans of the Blu Ray horror genre. Other noticeable cons are the bad visual effects and the annoying overdone horror moments. This includes someone making a sound just when the killer walks away from the hidden person. And the immortality of some of the characters. Getting hit by a knife multiple times in the leg and face doesn’t concern these people.

Conclusion

It’s a bad horror movie. The visuals and sound are okay and the story is a good try. Some clear errors however made the story pretty much not enjoyable. The movie should only be picked up if you like horror movies or are always looking for cheap budget Blu Ray titles to keep you amused for an hour and a half. Because then this movie truly delivers.
